Overview: Turkish Republic of North Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean and one of the most beautiful island. It is filled with rich dramatic history that can be traced back over nine thousand years. The name ‘Cyprus’, is believed to come from the word ‘copper’, of which there was, and possibly still is, an abundance of on the island.

History: North Cyprus is an island so coveted over the centuries that it has been invaded and claimed by an intriguing mixture of civilizations all of which have left their culture and shaped its character. This is mainly due to its strategic location, which lies on the crossroads of East and West. Before its annexation to Rome in 58 BC, Phoenicians, Achaeans, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, and Greeks colonized Cyprus. However, the first inhabitants of the island date back much further – they are proved to have settled on the island around 8000 BC. After the Romans ruled, Richard, The Lion Heart took over, then he sold it and later came the Lusignan Period. After that, it was also ruled by Venetians, Ottomans and British and finally came the civil war in 1974, after which the island was divided.

Nature & Weather: TRNC will enchant you with its nature and beautiful weather. There are plenty of lovely sandy beaches, beautiful mountains that are green all year round and miles and miles of unspoilt land. The weather consists of long dry summers from mid-May to mid-October and mild winters from December to February, separated by short autumn and spring seasons.

Culture: Traditional forms of Cypriot culture are to be found in music, folk-dancing, and various crafts as embroidery, lace-making, potteries, and kilim weaving. People are very warm, friendly and welcoming and live in almost crime free surroundings. As for the local cuisine, its variety of delicious dishes owes its heritage to a mixture of Mediterranean, Southern European and Middle Eastern influences.

Property Prices: North Cyprus is considered to be one of the cheapest places to purchase properties in the Mediterranean. Property prices in Cyprus have for many years been much lower than other parts of the Mediterranean and Europe. Current land prices  are approximately 25% and resale villa prices about 30-40% less than of those in the south of the island. Furthermore, South Cyprus property prices are 30-40% cheaper than other major Mediterranean countries such as Spain or Portugal.

Investment Opportunity: Now it is being realized that Turkish Republic of North Cyprus offers a great opportunity to invest or retire. Over the past five years, the prices of lands and properties have started to rise rapidly, a rise averaging 15% per annum. It is likely that this will continue until prices come in line with the rest of the region.

There will never be a better time to invest in
properties in Cyprus. Therefore, due to the low prices at the present time, we as Estate Agents highly recommend you visit the island in the nearest future to purchase a property.
