North Cyprus Education
The literacy rate in Cyprus is extremely high.Education in North Cyprus can be
explained in four parts.
Pre-school education is for kindergartens
children between ages 4 and 6.
Primary education
It takes place in two stages. The first stage is designed for children aged 7-12. This education is five year,
it is free and is very compulsory. The second stage consists of a
three year education. This type of education is for the 13-15 age group is also
free and compulsory.
Secondary Education
It is designed for the 16-18 age-group and consists of a three year progamme. This type of education is provided by high schools known as Lyceés.
North Cyprus has five major universities which are internationally recognized.
The Eastern Mediterranean University
It is located in the Famagusta city. It is one of the oldest universities in the country. Each year some 15,000 students register to this institution
to pursue their careers.
Near East University
The capital of the country; Nicosia is where the Near East University is located. This University has many foreign students. In NEU
the comfort of students is important and students are provided with many
different recreational activities.
The Cyprus International University
This is a newly opened university in the island, it has created agreements with different universities across the world. The CIU cooperates with a number of world-known
universities. Various exchange programs and international learning programs are offered. Its campus is located between Famagusta and Nicosia.
Girne American University
American students usually choose the Girne American University. The university has developed a five-year plan to transform itself into a
"knowledge age university".It has a modern curriculum and attracts the attention of many foreign students.
The Lefke European University
It was established in the year 1990 and is a relatively new institution. It offers a good innovative form of education.
